How to Setup RouterOS from Mikrotik.
RouterOS and SwitchOS is one of the most reliable software to be used in routers and switch. It is based on Linux kernel. which implements functionalities normally used by ISPs, such as BGP, IPv6, OSPF or MPLS. RouterOS supported by MikroTik and its user community, providing a wide variety of configuration examples. It can also be installed on a PC and will turn it into a router with all the necessary features – routing, firewall, bandwidth management, wireless access point, backhaul link, hotspot gateway, VPN server and more.
Installing RouterOS on an x86 machine is very simple
PC: Download the ISO image, burn it to CD and boot from it. Your new router will run for 24 hours without a license (turn it off to stop the timer). During this time you can try all the features of RouterOS.
Other x86: Netinstall will write RouterOS to any secondary drive you have attached to your Windows PC. Move the drive to your Router PC and boot it.
Setting it Up
After your RouterOS is installed or if you are using Mikrotik’s router board power it on.
- Connect your Computer to the Router through ethernet, or if you only have SFP/SFP+ ports then connect the SFP/SFP+ Module first or a DAC cable.
- Next Open any browser of your choice and go-to 192.168.88.1.
Or you can use Windbox. If the page failed to load open your network
configuration of your computer turn of DHCP and manually set IP address,
How to to do this?
- IP address : 192.168.88.101
- Subnet: 255.255.255.0 or /24
- Default Gateway: 192.168.88.1
- Your default username is ” admin ” and there is no default password so keep it empty.
- Now on the QuickSet tab tick on Automatic if you have DHCP enabled, if not click on Static and enter the details contact your ISP if you don’t know it. Also Connect your Wan If you haven’t done yet(If Wan is not labeled coonect it to Port-1.
- In Local Network, Give any IP addres to the Lan Subnet of your choice(Usually 255.255.255.0 or /24) And tick on the features you want. Give any name to router in the Identity text box.
- And click on Apply Configuration.
